Paramhansa Yoganada explained the "ego" as our immortal soul's delusion of being a human body. It is this delusion that causes the "desire" and "ignorance" Buddha was referring to. Krishna, Christ, Buddha and all self-realized avatars, before and after them, taught that we are one with the Infinite Cosmic Consciousness.
Desire comes from wanting something you don't have. If you had an apple grove abandant with apples, you would be conent with apples as oppossed to feeling a lack of apples, and thus desiring apples. How could we possibley "desire" something we already have. As one with God, the creator of all that is, we already have everything.
In Genesis 1:26 it is written: "Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..." Yoga states that the Infinite Cosmic God Consciousness, the “Higher Self”, gave parts of His own Consciousness self-awareness and free-will Each part is referred to as an immortal soul, or the "little self". Each of us is that "little self“, that immortal soul. Yet each of us is still one with, and an inseparable part of, the “One Higher Self".
Dispel all delusion of separateness and affirm in every moment of your life:
"Father, Thou art the Owner of all things.
I am Thy child. I have what Thou hast.
My native endowment is perfection and prosperity."
